Mission Alabama

Workforce Development

At Mission Alabama we are committed to workforce development initiatives as a means of stabilizing families in our in our urban and will communities. Our workforce development initiative has a three-point focus: Habilitate, Educate, Integrate. A major cornerstone of our workforce development efforts is our case management team. As the hearts and minds of families are transformed, isn’t working that they acquire the skills needed to earn a living wage
Workforce Development Goals

To create a mechanism that enables an able pool of potential workers possessing the aptitude or skills in a trade field to fill job vacancies.

·         Through the printed and visual media, promote the recruiting of persons with existing trade skills to desire to work within the workforce of our trade partners. These promotions will be geared to attracting potential workers who already possess a skill in the trade needed. As these workers are identified, they will be processed immediately through the career readiness track of the Bridge Program to the job site of our trade partners.

·         Develop a dual enrollment program for high school seniors with the aptitude for trades. Students identified with aptitudes for trades will be dual enrolled with their high school and Lawson States Trades School. Upon completion of a two year education with Lawson, students will automatically pursue a job with one of our trade partners. During their time at Lawson, students will be exposed to career readiness training, extensive classroom training, and at Ingalls, job shadowing, internship and placement.

·         In cooperation with selected high school systems, identify students who possess the aptitude for trades in the Drop-out Recovery Program. The Drop-out Recovery program provides students who have dropped out of school a second opportunity to gain their high school diploma. Students who are identified to compete for a job in trades will be processed through the Bridge Program to gain access to a trade workforce.

·         Identify students who possess the aptitude for trades in selected high school systems and invited them to the Birmingham College Scholarship and Career Fair. Students who are identified to compete for a job in trades will be processed through the Bridge Program to gain access to a trade workforce.
